Use of the National Collection
Because the National Collection is by nature an archive collection whose purpose is to preserve Finland's printed cultural heritage for future generations, domestic materials should first be sought from loanable collections or from other libraries, and only as a last resort from the National Collection. If the researcher, however, wishes to use the National Collection's materials in conjunction with other libraries' materials, the utilisation is justified.

When requesting materials belonging to these signums, the orderer must always fill out a right of use application. The permit must indicate which materials the user wishes to order, the justifications for their use and the period of time for which the materials will be needed.
One permit is valid for the time period specified and the materials specified in the permit. One permit per researcher is therefore sufficient for the user. If the user exceeds the time stated in the permit, he or she can apply for a time extension if necessary to complete the research. If, however, the theme of the research changes, a new permit will be required.
As many materials as is necessary per session may be ordered by the researcher. If the amount is substantial, orders will be delivered in smaller batches depending on the book search situation.
