Dissertationes veteres or the Vanhojen väitöskirjojen kokoelmat

The National Library of Finland has six collections of old academic dissertations, in total about 45,000 titles. The first was a collection of dissertations in all sciences prepared at various European universities which had belonged to count Jan Peter van Suchtelen. The Diss.Vet Sucht. collection was donated in 1836 to the Library by the Russian emperor, Nicholas I.

The other collections are
  • Diss.Vet.Ruotsi: dissertations (-1850) prepared at the universities in Lund and Uppsala (Sweden), all sciences
  • Diss.Vet.Korff: dissertations prepared at European Universitites, law and theology, collected by von Korff
  • Diss.Vet.Jur.: dissertations prepared at European universities, law
  • Diss.Vet.Var: dissertations prepared at European and American universities, all sciences
  • Diss.Vet.Engström: dissertations prepared at European universities, medicine

Part of the dissertations are catalogued in the HELKA database.

The dissertations are studied in the Special Reading Room in Fabiania.
