SICI - Serial Item and Contribution Identifier
A SICI is used to identify parts of a serial publication, for instance articles or issues of a journal.
The SICI is based on the ISSN and consists of the following parts:

- ISSN: 0095-4403
- Chronology: 199502/03 (publication year and month)
- Enumeration: 21:3 (Volume and number)
- Location: 12 (page number)
- Title code: WATIIB (initials of the first six words)
- Code structure identifier: 1=serial item, 2=serial contribution
- Derivate part identifier: 0=serial item or contribution, 1=table of contents, 2=index, 3=abstract
- Medium/Format identifier: TX=printed text, CO=online
- Standard version number: 2
- Check character
