The ISSN Network

The international ISSN Network consists of the ISSN International Centre located in Paris and national ISSN centres in individual member countries around the world. The ISSN International Centre coordinates and develops the network's activities, maintains the ISSNs Portal database, and allocates blocks of ISSN to the national centres. The Finnish ISSN Centre is responsible for assigning ISSNs in Finland and transmitting the details of serials to the ISSN Portal database. The following standards are connected to the ISSN: ISO 3297:1998 and SFS 4435:1998.

The international ISSN Portal database contains details of more than one million periodicals, series and other continuing publications. Some 50,000 publications are added to it every year. That the database, indeed, has a worldwide coverage is shown by the fact that it contains serial publications in more than 150 languages.

You can familiarise yourself with the ISSN Portal on the Internet free of charge. For regular users the service is subject to a fee. For further information on the ISSN Portal (e.g. pricelists and electronic order forms for trial use) and other ISSN products visit the ISSN International Centre's website.
