Printing of the ISBN

The ISBN should always be printed in type large enough to be easily legible (9 point or larger).

Books:
  • On the verso of the title page
  • On the outside back cover
  • On the outside of the back dust jacket or other protective case
Other monographic publications:
  • In the publication and, e.g., on the title display or the first display
  • In the credit title or end text
  • On all loose labels or sheets accompanying the publication

The ISBN should also be printed on all supplements. If the ISBN cannot be printed in all the places mentioned above, it must, however, always appear on the item itself.

If a publication has two or more ISBNs, they must all be mentioned on the verso of the title page or the corresponding place. On the publication's outside back cover, dust jacket or protective case is printed only the ISBN of that individual publication.

If a publication is placed in a protective case, the ISBN must be mentioned on the case in connection with the publisher's imprint. If the ISBN cannot be printed in the publication or on its label, it should be printed on the cover, for example the box, case, or frame. The ISBN should also be mentioned on all supplements, for example, the separate parts of multimedia.
