The ISBN for Multi-volume Works and Multimedia
An ISBN must be assigned to the whole set of volumes of a multi-volume work. In addition to this, each individual volume must be assigned its own ISBN.
Examples:
ISBN 978-951-638-500-9 (whole set)
ISBN 978-951-638-501-6 (part 1)
ISBN 978-951-638-502-3 (part 2)
Multimedia is a collection of two or more materials in various media, including non-book material, audiovisual material and non-print material with or without printed material, such as educational sets. An ISBN is assigned to the whole set and to each individual part that needs an ISBN. Even if the parts of the set are not sold separately, it is recommended that each individual part is given its own ISBN because this makes it easier for bookstores and libraries to handle them.
