University libraries ensure availability of scientific knowledge throughout Finland
There are 17 universities offering higher education in Finland. Since the promotion of regional equality is an important national objective, universities and university libraries are scattered throughout the country. Several universities have also set up regional units that offer library services through various forms of collaboration.
The primary purpose of university libraries is to serve the educational and research needs of the universities. Remote access is permitted to students, researchers, faculty and staff.
