Home Loans and Returns

Books in the open collections can be borrowed for four weeks; from the closed stacks the period is six months. The guarantee loan period for books borrowed from the closed stacks is four weeks. Following this, a reminder to return the book is sent to the cardholder if a second party has reserved the book.

Books in the Slavonic Library published after 1960, as well as the American Resource Center's works, may be checked out of the Library.

Books taken out of the Library may not be taken outside Finland's borders or be handed over to another person.

Books are returned to the Library's information desk. We do not accept the return of other libraries' books.

A letter of notification is sent by mail or e-mail for overdue books. A fine is charged for late returns and renewals. The daily fine is EUR 0.30 per book. If the book is not returned within two weeks, the cardholder's loan privileges will be revoked at all Helka libraries. If the loaned book is not returned after three reminders, the collection will be handed over to a collection agency.
