What do the open collection and Reference Library contain?
The open collection contains a selection of contemporary literature, magazines and series. The Reference Library contains reference works, bibliographies, dictionaries, anthologies and offical publications.

Regardless of the language in which it was published, research literature concerning the Russian and Slavic language areas is acquired for the Slavonic Library's loanable open collection. Recently acquired editions can be viewed on their own shelves and can be taken home.
The open collection's loanable books have been classified by geographical area, and within that, by subject when necessary.

The more commonly used magazines and series are found in the open collection; recent issues of newspapers and magazines are displayed on magazine racks. Most magazines must be ordered from the stacks. Magazines and series cannot be taken out of the Library.
