Finnish newspapers and Finnish-language newspapers published abroad

The Library has an almost complete collection of newspapers published in Finland (regardless of language) from 1771-. The newspapers are received as deposit copies from the printers and they are catalogued in the database FENNICA. There is an online index of the newspapers for the period 1771-1890 in the database The Finnish Historical Newspaper Library 1771 -1860.

Finnish newspapers published outside Finland
Finnish newspapers that are published outside Finland are purchased. The most important groups are:

  • Finnish-American newspapers; published in the U.S. and Canada 1876-
  • Carelian Soviet Socialist Republic newspapers; in Finnish, Carelian, and Russian
  • Other newspapers, published for example in Australia and Sweden.
