The Library has an almost complete collection of newspapers published in Finland (regardless of language) from 1771 to the present. The newspapers are received as deposit copies from the printers, and they are catalogued in the FENNICA database. There is an online index of the newspapers for the period 1771-1890 in the The Finnish Historical Newspaper Library 1771 -1909 database.
Finnish newspapers published outside Finland
Finnish newspapers that are published outside Finland are purchased. The most important groups are
- Finnish-American newspapers published in the US and Canada 1876-
- Carelian Soviet Socialist Republic newspapers in Finnish, Carelian and Russian
- Other newspapers, published, for example, in Australia and Sweden
