The Estonica Collection

The collection contains literature in Estonian published in Russia from 1828 to 1917 which the Library received as deposit copies during the Russian era. All Estonian books not considered important for study at the University were placed in the collection. There are primers and reading books, almanacs and calendars, religious literature, fiction, song books, and different kinds of handbooks, in total some 6,000 volumes and 100 periodical volumes.

There are also 250 newspaper volumes in the collection. They have been microfilmed (list), and the films are located in the Newspaper Room (North Hall, P-sali). A database of newspapers is available.

The material is studied in the Special Reading Room in Fabiania.
