Special Reading Room
The Special Reading Room is open 9 - 18, Sat 9 - 16
In the Special Reading Room rare and valuable works and works that are difficult to replace can be ordered and read.
In order to obtain a permit to use the Special Reading Room, proof of identity (identification card, Kela card (with photo), passport, driving license) must be shown. Information about the permit will be included in the Helka customer register. Every time the Special Reading Room is entered, the Helka card must be shown to the reading room staff. In certain cases the reading room staff may also ask to see proof of identity.
Delivery of ordered material
Special Reading Room material is delivered 24 hours after it is ordered. That means that the reader receives the material at the same hour that the material was ordered the previous day. Orders placed on Fridays, Saturdays and days before holidays are delivered the following workday.
Rules for the Special Reading Room
- Please show your Helka card when entering the Special Reading Room. The reading room staff verifies each customer's permit to use the Special Reading Room every time.
- All users of the reading room must write their name (and clarification of the name) in the guest book.
- Please note that there are collections for which special regulations apply. You must request the right to use these materials in advance and must use the material under staff supervision.
- Materials that are microfilmed or available as facsimile editions may not be borrowed for use in the reading room without a special request for the right to use them.
- The number of reading room loans may not exceed five manuscript units or 10 books per borrower.
- The borrower may not remove the material from the Special Reading Room.
- Handbags, briefcases, personal books and computer cases must be left in the lockers outside the reading room door.
- In certain cases the reading room staff may permit a book that is necessary for the research to be taken into the reading room. Please show the book to the staff when you leave the room.
- Pencils and paper for taking notes are available in the reading room. Please show the papers to the staff when you leave the room.
- The reading room staff will help you to find the reading space reserved for the type of material you intend to study.
- Readers are not permitted to reproduce special reading room materials, but copies can be ordered from the Issue Desk staff if copyright regulations and preservation aspects permit reproduction.
- All other rules concerning the use and handling of the Library's materials must be observed.
