Legal Deposit of Printed and Audiovisual Materials Manufactured Abroad
When printed or audiovisual material is manufactured abroad but intended for distribution in Finland, the duty to deposit rests with the publisher or importer.
In some subcontractor cases it may be that a foreign printing house or a manufacturer of sound recordings submits materials directly to the customers of the main supplier, usually to the single publishers who manage the distribution of their own publications in Finland. Vendors and brokers of manufacturing services are recommended to inform their customers about the duty to deposit their publications in the National Library of Finland. By depositing copies, the publisher assures that the publication will be preserved and the publication data will be entered into the databases of the Finnish national bibliography (Fennica) and the Finnish national discography (Viola).
