Over 500 library digital service specialists from all around the world to gather in Helsinki

The international IGeLU 2009 congress on digital library services will be held in Helsinki in the Marina Congress Center between 6 September and 9 September 2009. The four-day event is organized and hosted by the National Library of Finland and is an opportunity for over 500 international experts to exchange ideas on the development of information systems in their field.

The annual IGeLU (International Group of Ex Libris Users) congress focuses on the development of software supplier Ex Libris’s products. Most of the participants will be from Europe, but experts from all continents will attend.

According to Kristiina Hormia-Poutanen, Director of the National Library Network Services, the software used in libraries will significantly change in the next few years due to the rapid digitalisation of library operations.

- Finnish libraries are already in the process of extensively developing and utilizing digital library services, explains Hormia-Poutanen, who also stresses how extremely important it is in the current phase of the transformation that experts from different parts of the world can engage in discussion and generate ideas for the future.
