"Historialinja" timeline chronicles the history of the Helsinki University Library from 1640 to the present
On the initiative of Director, Professor Kai Ekholm, a "Historialinja" timeline presenting a chronological history of the Helsinki University Library, the National Library of Finland has been assembled on the library's website. The timeline begins with the founding of the Academy of Turku and continues to the present day. Indicated on the timeline are all library directors and their terms, the buildings in which the library has functioned, significant historical events from the standpoint of the library's collections, legislation pertaining to Legal Deposit Services, the library's national tasks, as well as changes that have taken place over the years in the library's operations.
Rare Book Librarian Sirkka Havu assembled the timeline's texts; additional information was collected by the library's historians (Jorma Vallinkoski, The history of the University library at Turku. 1-2. 1640-1772, Part 3. 1773-1827 (manuscript) and Arne Jörgensen, Universitetsbiblioteket i Helsingfors 1927-1848.), as well as from annual reports and the library's staff.
Master of Arts Sanna Järvinen was responsible for the graphical and technical realisation.
