Guided tours

Take a guided tour of the National Library.

Service description

Guided tours are organised on Tuesdays 3pm-4pm and Fridays 11am-12am only. If the COVID-19 situation changes, opening hours and services can change quickly.

A guided tour is available to groups with 5 to 15 participants. The tour lasts approximately 45 minutes and takes the group into the various floors of the old library building, so we recommend that possible reduced mobility issues are discussed already when booking the tour.

Groups can enquire about guided tours at the National Library of Finland by sending an email to [email protected].

The message must include the following information:

  • Language preference
  • Objects of special interest to the group (for example, history, architecture, collections, services, research)
  • Date and time (the booking should be made at least a week before the desired date)
  • Group size
  • Contact information
  • Other special wishes

Guided tours cost 50 euros and they can be arranged in Finnish, Swedish, English or Russian. At the moment we can only accept card payments, no cash. An invoice can also be arranged, but there is an extra charge of 10 euros.

Your tour guide will meet you in the foyer. For security reasons, we impose limits on the type and amount of items visitors can bring with them into the library. We politely ask you to leave your outer clothes, umbrellas and bags in the cloakroom on the ground floor, free of charge.

A self-service visit

The National Library can also be consulted on its own. The main entrance offers free brochures on the history and architecture of the building in Finnish, Swedish and English. Individuals can tour the Cupola Hall and its middle gallery, Rotunda and exhibition spaces. The reading rooms are calmed and accessible only to readers of the reading rooms.
