AVIISI – sanomalehtien kultainen vuosisata käyttöön

To plan, build and pilot operating models with which the use of digital newspaper materials subject to copyright can be tested to a degree exceeding that permitted by current legislation in regional pilot projects in the Mikkeli region.

Goal and tasks

The aim of AVIISI is to advance in phases to expand the use of copyrighted newspaper materials in cooperation and agreeing with Kopiosto, newspaper publishing companies and the National Library.
To plan, build and pilot operating models with which agreement can be reached to bring digital copyrighted materials from the 1900s and the 2000s into wider use.

Financing

The project is implemented by the National Library’s Centre for Preservation and Digitisation, administered by the University of Helsinki and located in Mikkeli. In addition, the project is funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), the Regional Council of South Savo, the City of Mikkeli, Kaakon Viestintä Oy/Länsi-Savo, Viestilehdet Oy/Maaseudun tulevaisuus and Kopiosto.

Research and development has been funded from the European Union Regional Development Fund and its Leverage from the EU 2014 - 2020 programme

Collaboration

AVIISI is a step towards an open information society and entails cooperation between public and private sectors. The AVIISI project is linked with the EduCloud project of the Ministry of Education and Culture and it supports the strategic PROMISE-2016 programme of the City of Mikkeli.
Other cooperation partners include the Mikkeli provincial archives,
the Regional Council of South Savo, the City of Mikkeli, Mikkeli University of Applied Sciences, the Central Archives for Finnish Business Records (Elka), Kopiosto ry, Kaakon Viestintä/Länsi-Savo and Viestilehdet Oy/Maaseudun tulevaisuus.
