Collection description

The Swedish Era Literature collection includes the oldest part of the Finnish national literature, approximately 17,400 publications printed between 1488 and 1809/1827. The publications are in Finnish, printed in Finland, published by Finnish people or important people in Finland or printed abroad but concerning Finland. The oldest piece in the collection is the first book printed for Finland, Missale Aboense printed in Lübeck in 1488. In regard to other materials, the literature is limited to the first year of Finnish autonomy in 1809, but in regard to the literature from the Royal Academy of Turku, it is restricted to the year of Great Fire of Turku in 1827.
