Collection description

The Finnish ambassador of France, Maurice de Coppet (1868–1930) bequeathed the main part of his library, around 11,000 volumes to the University of Helsinki.

Content-wise, the collection focuses on fiction and history and it includes a significant amount of first editions' numbered pieces of French, limited circulation fiction works published during the 1920s. Literature concerning the First World War is very well represented in the collection, as well as literature about Ethiopia.

An exlibris ordered from artist Jukka Pellinen, "Gallia in Finlandia", was added to Coppet books in the National Library of Finland.
