Mainly publications accrued through various donations have been added to the collection, but the collection contains also deposit copies from Finnish Autonomy. The oldest printed materials in the collection are Swedish decrees and personal booklets from the 17th century, while the most recent materials are from the 1970s. The collection contains a great deal of political pamphlets, speeches and flyers, postcards and various tourism advertisements and travel guides.

The collection has arranged by topic Adapting the Universal Decimal Classification. In addition, some of the materials have been preserved in thematic wholes. For example, ephemera published in the Baltic countries and emigrant literature (by country) is stored as its own group as is ephemera from the 17th and 18th centuries.
