Collection description

The Eino Mikkola Collection stems from a donation of the Professor Eino Mikkola's (1905–1987) estate in 1988. This extensive private library of over 30,000 titles included a large amount of Finnish literature from the era of Swedish rule, censored political literature and first editions of Finnish fiction and poetry. The collection also represented Mikkola's own research area, classical philology and the Antiquity. In addition, the collection contained philosophical and political literature, including rare, communistic works from the 1920s and 1930s. Parts of the Mikkola estate’s donation have been dispersed into other collections of the National Library and the National Repository Library of Finland in Kuopio. The Special Collection (The Eino Mikkola Collection) contains around 8,000 volumes of particular value or rarity.
