The National Collection's Book Collection contains the monograph-type materials intended for distribution to trhe general public received as legal deposit copies since the early-1800s to today.
The collection is divided in two in non-fiction and fiction, which have further been arranged in two time periods: (1) Literature published in 1810–1972 ("old Fennica") and (2) literature published since 1973.

The collection is for the most part catalogued into the National Library Search. However, some of the older literature (up until 1977) with its location data is only available in the card index of the National Collection.
Legal deposit copy collection
Accrues statutorily as legal deposit copies, see Act on Collecting and Preserving Cultural Materials (Laki kulttuuriaineistojen tallettamisesta ja säilyttämisestä 1433/2007), http://www.finlex.fi/fi/laki/alkup/2007/20071433. In addition, literature published in Finnish, on Finland or publioshed by Finns abroad is acquired as single acquisitions.
