The National Collection is an archive collection of national materials that contains Finnish printed products as well as sound and image recordings. The collection also includes Finnish-language materials published abroad, materials published by Finns and materials concerning Finland. The compilation is based on the 300-year-old legal deposit copy right that obligates the manufacturers and publishers of materials to furnish legal deposit copies of their products to the National Library of Finland. The National Collection is particularly important regarding the kinds of materials not collected by other libraries.
