Exhibitions
The Gallery
The basis of the National Library’s exhibition planning is the multifaceted display of the National Library’s extensive collections in connection with themes that interest the scientific community and the general public. The purpose is to create new perspectives and information content as well as present research-oriented discoveries concerning Finland’s national cultural heritage. At its best the exhibition cooperation with researchers has led to a popularisation of science and an enhanced public awareness of the National Library’s activities.
Each year 1-2 large-scale exhibitions are organised in the National Library’s Gallery, along with 10-11 smaller exhibitions mounted in the Rotunda and Café. The Gallery exhibitions are planned on a two- to three-year time schedule. The National Library of Finland also produces national and international travelling exhibitions that have been panelised for display. Exhibitions are organised in cooperation with researchers, cultural institutions, literary societies, universities and other academic communities. The exhibition materials are drawn from the National Library’s collections. The goals set for the exhibitions’ design and display include systematic and expert planning of content that serves the needs of science and research, high quality visual realisation that takes into account conservation requirements, secure display techniques, contemporary relevance, fresh viewpoints, as well as national and international interest.
The National Gallery of Finland’s exhibitions are open during the Library’s opening hours.
